Workshop Inboard Diesel Mechanic - Bicester

This position is Bicester based working within a Production support team on inboard diesel engine modifications, predominantly for product sold by The Special Products Division (military, rescue, commercial applications).  This is a hands-on ‘mechanic’ role producing modified and reworked engines. 

  • Produce, service or rebuild engines as required following correct issue number of build standards and special instructions
  • Dynamometer test engine and produce / record test data.
  • Ensure that all engine dynamometers are always fully operational. Liaise with Production Engineer to organise repairs and maintenance.
  • Ensure work hours are recorded by the use of automated company swipe card system.
  • Undertake off the job training and in house training.
  • Maintaining work areas and equipment in good clean condition.
  • Ensure safe working practices are observed at all times. Company health & safety policy must be followed at all times.
  • Collect or deliver parts, consumables or equipment for job.
  • Assist in testing company products or setting up shows or exhibitions, both on or off site
  • Maintain and drive Company vehicles to collect or deliver parts, consumables or equipment, as required and when appropriate

EXPERIENCE
  • NVQ Level 3 City & Guilds in Vehicle Mechanics or Engineering
  • Engineering based subjects or equivalent engineering qualifications
  • Experience in Mechanical engineering and Diesel engines
  • Experience in running engine dynamometers is desirable
  • At least 4-5 years’ experience in a busy workshop/production environment.
  • Practical engineering skills such as welding, fabrication, engine diagnostic skills, building and repairs would be desirable.
  • IT skills.
KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS
• Practical working knowledge of mechanical engineering procedures
• Knowledge of engines and systems servicing and repair methods
• Strong team working & communication skills
• Computer skills in the use of excel, word, database(s) and email
• Administrative duties to support an engineering environment.
• Working knowledge of company procedures and working within an ISO 9001 system
