Overall:
 
  • Be responsible for planned and reactive maintenance of all on site machinery and boats
  •  To assist the Boatyard team in the lifting, launching and storage of all vessels within the Harbour as and when required.
  • To assist with the patrolling of the Beaulieu River to ensure that the river operates as efficiently and safely as possible in accordance with the Port Marine Safety Code as and when required.
  
Key Duties:
 
  • To maintain and carry out the servicing on all boat engines on Harbour patrol vessels and workboats to include outboards and diesel inboards.
  • To maintain and carry out the servicing on all boatyard equipment including a Wise 40 ton Hoist, Telehandler, forklift and 4x4 Truck.
  • Update and maintain all inspection records
  • Organise LOLER Inspections and maintain inspection records.
  • Ensure all tools and equipment are kept and maintained to ensure safe operation in line with HSE guidance.
  • To assist with the lifting/washing, blocking off, cross-bracing and launching of boats as and when required.
  • To act as visual monitor during boat hoist movements.
  • To assist with the un-stepping and re-stepping of boat masts as and when required.
  • Check boats stored ashore regularly especially when extreme weather is forecast.
  • To assist with maintaining the yard and marina keeping it in a clean and tidy condition and carry out regular inspections of all areas.
  • To assist with the patrolling of the Beaulieu River to ensure that the harbour operates as efficiently and safely as possible in accordance with the Port Marine Safety Code as and when required.
  • To ensure the highest standards of service to customers, protecting the reputation of the company at all times.
  • To carry out all duties in a way which will ensure the Health and Safety of staff and visitors is adhered to.
  • To undertake any other duties as required by the Harbour Master or Deputy Harbour Master.
  
Person specification:
 
Essential
 
  • A thorough knowledge of petrol and diesel engines and machinery
  • Working knowledge of hydraulic systems
  • Good working knowledge of DC electrical systems and repairs, AC electrical qualifications would be an advantage.
  • Ability to diagnose faults and problem solve to ensure all equipment is kept to a good standard.
  • A Full UK Driving Licence
  • Able to swim
  • Ability to work unsupervised
  • Ability to communicate tactfully and diplomatically at all levels
  • Be prepared to work outdoors in all conditions
  • Physical Fitness and ability to undertake outdoor physical work
 
 
Desirable
 
  • Slinger/banksman qualification
  • Forklift Certificate
  • RYA Level 2 powerboat
  • Plumbing experience
  • Welding experience
  • Fibreglass repairs
 
 
A flexible approach towards working times is required, working a rotating roster, including weekends.  At times, it will be required to work additional hours during peak busy periods or special events and is on call in times of an emergency or bad weather.
