Senior Design Engineer

A busy, award winning boat builder based in the South West require a Senior Design Engineer to join their multitalented team through a host of current and new projects.

This exciting brand have for many years been building premium and semi-custom craft for the luxury sector and are considered one of the leaders of their field. Due to unabated growth and huge success over the past years the team now require a skilled Senior Design Engineer to manage them through a host of varied projects and the exciting years to follow.

The role is largely project based and you will be expected to produce 3D models and production drawings, before liaising with the fit-out team on rigging the manufactured parts. This is a fantastic opportunity where you will be able to see your design work from initial concept to finished product, often under tight timescales.

The candidate will be responsible for a range of duties, including the following:
-Lead individual projects, managing initial concept through to delivery.
-Produce accurate 3D models and production drawings of new parts styled by the design team.
-Deliver design and engineering solutions such as complex hinge mechanisms and moving components.
-Create BOMs for new parts/assemblies.
-Keep master GA's and production drawings up to date with design changes.
-Project managing multiple external contractors and suppliers, ensuring budgets and schedules are respected.
-Work with the in-house fit-out team to ensure seamless implementation of custom parts. A hands-on approach is often necessary in this role.
-Deal directly with high profile clients and shipyards ensuring project expectations are managed and met.

The candidate will require the following skills:
-Minimum 3 years' experience in a marine design engineering role, ideally within the small craft or superyacht industry.
-Experience of yacht tender requirements and low volume or semi-custom projects is highly beneficial.
-Highly proficient in 2D and 3D CAD, specifically Rhinoceros 3D. Knowledge of Autodesk Fusion 360 and Solidworks is also highly desirable.
-Proficient in MS Word, Excel and Outlook as well as Salesforce.
-A detailed understanding of materials and low volume production techniques.
-An exceptional eye for detail.
-A confident communicator; both with clients and colleagues throughout the business structure.
-Proficiency in FEA and structural calculations is a desirable but not essential for the role
