We are recruiting an experienced Boat Refit Manager for a busy marine operation at Portland Marina. This is a hands-on leadership role, managing refit and repair projects on vessels up to 24m, while leading a skilled technical team. The successful candidate will combine technical knowledge with strong commercial and project management skills, ensuring high-quality delivery and excellent customer service.

Key Responsibilities:
- Manage and oversee refit and repair projects from quotation through to completion.
- Lead and motivate multi-disciplinary technical teams, ensuring safety, quality, and efficiency.
- Communicate effectively with clients, providing updates and managing expectations.
- Interpret drawings, specifications, and survey reports accurately.
- Ensure projects are delivered on budget and schedule, with commercial awareness of profitability.
- Maintain high professional standards and enforce quality control throughout the yard.
- Contribute to continuous improvement of processes, systems, and team performance.
- 7–10 years’ experience in the leisure or commercial marine sector.
- Proven management experience leading technical teams.
- Experience managing repair/refit projects on vessels up to 24m LOA.
- Strong customer communication and project oversight skills.
- Good commercial awareness: costing, budgeting, and profitability.
- Knowledge of marine paint systems, GRP repairs, Coppercoat, and onboard systems.
- Competent in interpreting technical drawings and survey reports.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office and job-tracking systems.
- High professional standards and commitment to quality.
- Strong written and verbal communication.
- Organised, process-driven, and able to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
- Calm under pressure with strong decision-making ability.
- Leadership mindset with the ability to motivate and direct teams.
- Logical problem solver with a flexible approach to working hours.
- Works well within a high-performing team.
- Formal marine or boatbuilding qualifications.
- Experience managing a boatyard or marine service department.
- Knowledge of electrical systems and marine electronics.
- Experience with lifting/boat handling operations.
- Health & Safety qualifications (IOSH, RAMS familiarity).
- Specialist coatings knowledge, including Coppercoat processes.
- Project management training or qualifications (Prince2/APM).
- Practical boating experience or relevant marine hobbies.
- Enthusiastic about boating and the wider marine industry.
- Interested in continuous personal and professional development within the sector.
