Job description

We’re looking for a practical, organised, and team‑focused Purchasing Manager to take day-to-day responsibility for buying materials, keeping inventory accurate, and supporting smooth production in a busy manufacturing environment. This role is ideal for someone who enjoys working closely with suppliers, solving problems, and keeping operations running efficiently.

The driving purpose of this role is to manage the purchasing of materials and inventory required for production and customer orders, ensuring stock levels are accurate and materials arrive on time. You will need to bring experience from a manufacturing environment, along with hands‑on knowledge of purchasing through MRP systems and BOMs. A customer‑focused mindset is essential, recognising how material availability directly affects sales and service levels. The role also requires confident problem‑solving, effective time management, and sound decision‑making abilities.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Run the Stock Requisition Worksheet as scheduled to ensure materials are available for production and sales.
  • Support and motivate the Purchasing Assistant in daily tasks.
  • Maintain accurate stock inventory and help manage regular stock takes.
  • Chase late deliveries and work with suppliers to resolve delays.
  • Investigate and correct negative stock and other stock discrepancies before month end.
  • Review stock errors and adjustments and resolve issues promptly.
  • Make sure all work follows the relevant production handbooks (IPH B and PHB).
  • Look for ways to improve efficiency in the purchasing process.
  • Help consolidate suppliers and support re-sourcing projects.
  • Keep supplier lead times accurate and up to date.
  • Negotiate prices, payment terms, and delivery schedules with suppliers and customers.
This role offers the chance to make a real impact within the purchasing function and support the smooth running of a growing manufacturing business.
