Principal Mechanical Engineer

An exciting opportunity to work within a leading company who supports both the Commercial and Government market, the Principal Mechanical Engineer is responsible for the decomposition of top level system or product requirements into an implementable mechanical architecture.
Reporting directly to the Mechanical Engineering Manager, the Principal Mechanical Engineer will be responsible for developments from preliminary design to verified design and provide knowledge to the team across mechanical design, test and certification of hardware based systems. Working closely with the Mechanical Engineering Manager you provide guidance and leadership to the other members of the design team and support to other teams both internally and externally on related matters.

Key Responsibilities:
• To provide Mechanical Design knowledge & expertise on all related activities throughout the whole product lifecycle including Thermal Design, Shock, Vibration, Mechanical Integrity and Safety aspects
• Take ownership, led and manage projects within the Mechanical Design department.
• Participate in Design Reviews, Change Reviews and NPI processes including DFM
• Promotes the technical work of the company in appropriate forums
• Ability to understand and apply business systems, engineering and configuration control processes
• Technical Report Writing
• Maintain strong relationships and work closely with Manufacturing, Engineering, Quality and Vendors. Including supplier selection and outsourcing activities within the supply chain related to Mechanical Design.
• Support Design for Manufacture and Customer Service support.

Key Requirements:
• Degree qualified in Mechanical Engineering
• Solid background in Design for Manufacture and Production Engineering processes
• Understanding of Electrical and Electronics
• Project Management skills
• Proven experience working across the full product lifecycle
• Analysis of mechanical structures using FEA and CFD is desirable
• Willingness to travel at short notice
• Ability to gain UK Security clearance
• UK Driving License
