Job Title: O&M Mechanical Fitter

We are currently recruiting an experienced Mechanical Fitter to join a busy Operations and Maintenance Team at a major maritime facility. This is a fantastic opportunity to work in a varied role maintaining critical equipment and systems that keep the site operational.
The Role You’ll be responsible for carrying out both planned and reactive mechanical maintenance to ensure operational availability of the site. This will include working on a wide range of equipment such as heating systems, pumps, hoists, winches, saws, grinders, and more.

Mechanical Fitter
Location: Portsmouth
We are currently recruiting an experienced Mechanical Fitter to join a busy Operations and Maintenance Team at a major maritime facility. This is a fantastic opportunity to work in a varied role maintaining critical equipment and systems that keep the site operational.
The Role You’ll be responsible for carrying out both planned and reactive mechanical maintenance to ensure operational availability of the site. This will include working on a wide range of equipment such as heating systems, pumps, hoists, winches, saws, grinders, and more.
Key duties include:
- Delivering safe and professional planned and reactive maintenance across a variety of mechanical systems and machinery.
- Supporting the boiler house team in maintaining the site's steam system.
- Fault finding and rectification on mechanical systems, providing detailed defect reports.
- Using mobile devices to manage and deliver work orders.
- Working both independently and as part of a team, with a proactive and flexible approach.
- Participating in the on-call rota for out-of-hours maintenance requirements.
- Ensuring all work meets compliance, safety standards, and KPI requirements.
- Building positive working relationships with customers and colleagues.
- Completed mechanical apprenticeship or equivalent proven experience.
- NVQ Level 3 or similar in mechanical engineering (or working towards).
- Experience in mechanical maintenance, fault finding, and repair.
- Confident with hand tools and workshop equipment.
- Knowledge of Health & Safety best practices and safe systems of work.
- IT literate with the ability to use maintenance software.
- Full UK driving licence.
- Ability to obtain security clearance.
- Gas Safe or steam accreditation.
- Experience working to industry regulations and technical specifications.
- Collaborative team player with strong communication skills.
- Professional, proactive, and safety-conscious.
- Flexible approach and ability to work under pressure.
