Job description

We are looking for a Marine Mechanical Technician to support our client's growing fleet of autonomous and crewed vessels. This is a hands-on, technically demanding position that requires a strong understanding of marine systems, a proactive approach to problem-solving and a commitment to safety, quality and innovation.

Key responsibilities

  • Ensure timely completion of work orders, maintenance activities and project tasks.
  • Perform hands-on mechanical work, including troubleshooting, repairs and installations.
  • Conduct routine inspections and preventative maintenance on mechanical systems and equipment.
  • Ensure compliance with all relevant mechanical codes, safety regulations and company policies.
  • Accurately record work performed, parts used, and time spent in maintenance systems.
  • Support continuous improvement initiatives to enhance vessel reliability and performance.
  • Collaborate with electrical, operations, safety, and quality departments to deliver integrated solutions.
  • Diagnose and resolve mechanical issues efficiently to minimise downtime.
Essential skills, knowledge and experience:

  • Significant, recent relevant experience in the marine industry (ship repair, vessel operations or related field).
  • Strong technical background in mechanical systems, including propulsion, hydraulics and auxiliary systems.
  • Demonstrated ability to work safely and efficiently, both independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team.
  • Excellent fault-finding, diagnostic and repair skills.
  • Strong communication and organisational skills.
Desirable (but not essential):

  • HNC / HND or equivalent qualification in Mechanical Engineering or a related discipline.
  • Experience with autonomous or remotely operated vessels.
  • Ability to read and interpret mechanical drawings and schematics.
  • In-depth knowledge of marine mechanical standards, tools, and best practices.
