What You’ll Be Doing
- Design and review electrical systems including power distribution, control, automation, and instrumentation for advanced marine technologies
- Specify and integrate control systems such as PLCs, HMIs, VFDs, and interfacing components
- Produce comprehensive technical documentation including wiring diagrams, cable schedules, load calculations, and system architecture
- Collaborate closely with naval architects, mechanical engineers, and software developers to ensure seamless system integration
- Ensure designs comply with key marine standards and regulations (e.g. DNV, ABS, Lloyd’s Register, IEC)
- Prepare technical specifications to support procurement, vendor selection, and production planning
- Contribute to vessel integration designs and support shipboard installation projects
- Provide remote and on-site support during commissioning, sea trials, and handover phases
What You’ll Bring
- Degree in Electrical Engineering or equivalent professional qualifications
- Solid background in marine electrical systems design and integration
- Practical understanding of shipboard power systems, switchboards, generators, and battery storage
- Experience with PLCs and VFDs, including specification and implementation
- Proficiency with CAD tools (e.g., AutoCAD Electrical, EPLAN)
- Familiarity with marine regulatory frameworks and safety standards
- Comfortable working independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team
- Strong diagnostic and troubleshooting capabilities
- Willingness to travel for installations, commissioning, client support, and shipboard inspections
Desirable Extras
- COMPEX or equivalent certification for hazardous area equipment
- Experience in PLC coding and programming
- Chartered Engineer status or working towards chartership
