Club Secretary / General Manager – Sailing Club (Chichester Harbour)


An exciting opportunity has arisen to lead the operations of a prestigious sailing club set within the stunning surroundings of Chichester Harbour. This long-established, member-focused club offers sailing, hospitality, and social events from a beautiful Grade II listed clubhouse, and is home to a vibrant community of around 1,500 Members.

We’re seeking an experienced, proactive, and people-driven Club Secretary / General Manager to take the helm and oversee all aspects of the Club’s operations. This is a hands-on leadership role suited to someone who enjoys variety from managing teams and Member experience to ensuring smooth day-to-day running across sailing, hospitality, and facilities.

Key Responsibilities
  • Lead and motivate a dedicated team, ensuring high standards of service across all areas.
  • Oversee operations including sailing activities, hospitality, maintenance, and Member services.
  • Manage budgets, suppliers, and planning to ensure efficient and effective operations.
  • Ensure compliance with all legal, health & safety, and licensing requirements.
  • Act as Company Secretary, supporting the Committee and Commodore with governance and administration.
  • Represent the Club professionally in all external interactions.
  • Be flexible in working hours, with occasional evening and weekend work, particularly in the sailing season.
About You
  • Proven management or operational leadership experience in a service or member-based environment.
  • Excellent communication, organisational, and stakeholder management skills.
  • Strong financial acumen and experience managing teams and budgets.
  • IT literate with solid administrative and reporting capability.
  • A Personal Licence would be beneficial.
  • Sailing knowledge or interest would be an advantage but not essential.
