Composite Structural Engineer
We have a fantastic opportunity to join an innovative team, designing high-performance crafts for the leisure & luxury marine markets, from concept through to delivery!

Responsibilities

  • Design engineering of lightweight composite components

  • Calculating scantlings for motor and sailing yachts based on various classification society standards

  • Optimisation of existing composite components for weight reduction and renewability

  • Collaborating with production by helping with design refinements

  • Carry out structural calculations as required for the project across a range of scenarios

  • Lead minor engineering projects from concept through to delivery

  • Provide sound estimates for engineering work and technical guidance to other team members

  • Liaise with sub-contract manufacturers and suppliers regarding design solutions

  • Create technical reports

Essential

  • BEng degree mechanical engineering/Yacht design

  • Minimum of 3 years relevant experience in the marine industry

  • Demonstrate knowledge and experience in composite structural design and production

  • Self-motivation and time management skills to meet agreed targets and deadlines

  • Proven ability to process technical problems and effectively seek out the correct technical solution using sound engineering judgement

  • Commercial awareness

  • The ability to produce clear and well-presented drawings and plans to a suitable quality and standard

  • MS Office to develop reports, spreadsheet data and presentation information

Desirable

  • MSc in composite material/structure

  • FEA experience

  • An innovative and creative approach

  • Use or classification society software such as HullScant-SSC-ComposIT

  • 2D CAD (AutoCAD) to produce design information

  • 2D/3D CAD and other specialist software (including MathCAD calculation and Strand FEA software) as required to produce and to review design information

  • Knowledge and understanding of ship structural design and structural analysis
