Marine Resources have a unique and exciting opportunity for an extremely experienced Boat Builder (known internally as a Master Craftsperson) to join our client in Southampton.

The Master Craftsperson will undertake all boat building activities in the manufacture of my clients luxury yachts. They will be the subject matter expert of their respective trade and actively coach, guide, train and mentor trainees, apprentices and less experienced members of the team imparting their extensive, knowledge and experience. They will be expected to utilise their expertise and experience to improve the build, design and quality of their products.


Key Job Responsibilities

Master Craftsperson

• Undertake the role of Subject Matter Expert (SME) for trade, imparting knowledge, skills and experience both practical and theoretical to other team members.
• To perform daily/weekly tasks in line with trade specialism as per schedule of work which is produced by the task tracker on the project management tool.
• Keeping up to date on new methods and technologies relevant for their trade and to ensure continuous professional development
• Responsible for an apprentice and or trainee’s training and development over the course of their training period.
• Support with agreed training providers e.g. chosen college for Apprentices providing insight and feedback on course material and relevance and direct feedback on the apprentices progress.
• To input and aid the creation of trainee/apprentice training programme in conjunction with Production leadership team. And then follow the agreed programme side by side with assigned trainee/apprentice.

Support to Production Management
• Participate in the Recruitment and Selection of and other key personnel, as required.
• Conduct toolbox talks as required and ensure team members are continually striving for best practice.
• Working with Coordinator and the wider leadership team, to coach and to identify skills gaps, identify relevant training and aid with delivery of.

Process Improvement
• Maintain world class standards by utilisation of 6S principles and lean manufacturingtechniques.
• Stay up to date with new technologies and yacht manufacturing techniques, working with other sites to ensure standards and build methodology is standardised across Oyster.

Quality
• Drive quality control processes with the Quality Team to ensure the builds are to highest quality standards.
• Instil and reinforce a culture with quality at the core. Focusing on a right first-time approach.
• Ensure tasks are carried out to the issued drawings and Master Work List and completed to the correct standard of quality.
• Responsibility for carrying out regular in build quality checks and end of build snagging of yachts.

Health, Safety and Environment
• Ensure work area is always customer/visitor ready.
• Ensure adherence to Health, Safety and Environment policy and legal requirements in conjunction with Production management and the HSE Team.

Knowledge
  • Extensive practical and theoretical knowledge of [trade specific]

  • Extensive experience in a master craftsperson / senior trade role in the marine or comparable

  • Preparing and delivery of toolbox talks on areas of specialism
  • Recruitment and selection of trade personnel including, CV review, interviewing and trade
  • tests, where applicable

Qualifications
  • City and Guilds Level 3 or equivalent in [specific trade specialism]
  • Health and Safety certification, desirable
  • Lean manufacturing, for example Six Sigma, desirable
