Technical Author

A very well established Yacht Manufacturer is looking for a New Technical Author!
Do you have experience writing clear & concise documentation covering all aspects of a product from build process and manufacturing standards through to testing documentation and owner’s manuals??
 
As a technical author, you'll be working closely with our Product Development and Design Team to gain a clear in depth understanding of the end product, and translate this knowledge into clear & concise documentation. You will be required to provide this information in the most appropriate format for the subject matter; including text documents, step-by-step visual guides, interactive tutorials, or using video, illustrations, and graphics.
 
Key Responsibilities:
Create and maintain High Quality internal & External documentation by:
  • Writing, editing and proofreading text.
  • Collating and Verifying information
  • Creating and editing pictures and Diagrams.
  • Liaising with other staff such as printers, Photographers and Translators.
  • Producing Indexes and Catalogues.
  • Work with internal teams to obtain an in depth understanding of the product and the documentation requirements.
Creating Specific documentation to record first of / Prototype build details, ensuring all key areas of the product are documented for future reference:
  • Producing and maintaining Owners Manuals (External/ Customer Facing Documentation).
  • Producing & maintaining Manufacturing Standards (Internal Production Standards Documentation).
  • Producing and maintaining ‘Build pack’ Documentation (Internal Tutorial/Build guidance); Collating build process sequence documentation including design drawings, relevant MAN standards and specific step by step instructions/videos & Photos throughout development of new product in order to provide comprehensive production handover documentation- ensuring all process are captured, recorded via photo/video evidence and explained so can be referred to later in build.
  • Writing and maintaining Process documentation – e.g. Tool maintenance process documentation.

  • An ability to grasp and structure large amounts of information and anticipate readers knowledge gaps

  • Excellent planning and organisational skills
  • Analytical and questioning skills to get information from experts
  • Computer literate; with ability to work within, Microsoft Word, PowerPoint & Excel. Skills and abilities in graphics packages would also be beneficial (Adobe Photoshop/Illustrator or similar)
 
Experience:
  • Previous relevant experience as a technical Author or in a similar role would be preferred.
  • Experience in a technical role (e.g. Design/Engineering/Production environment) would be beneficial
  • The ability to share examples of similar work
 
Education & Training:
A Degree in higher or Higher Education Qualification in a technical or scientific
subject would be beneficial.
 
Location Requirements:
Be based or willing to relocate to the Midlands, this position is office based 5 days a week
