Sailing Manager – Royal Southern Yacht Club

Marine Resources are delighted to be working in partnership with The Royal Southern Yacht Club, based on the River Hamble, who seeking an experienced and passionate Sailing Manager to lead their renowned sailing programme. With a long-standing tradition of hosting high-profile sailing events and offering exceptional member
experiences, this role provides a unique opportunity to shape the future of sailing at one of the UK’s leading yacht clubs.
As the Sailing Manager, you will play a key role in delivering first-class racing, youth development opportunities, and social sailing activities for members and visiting competitors alike. This position offers the chance to steer a thriving programme and work at the heart of a community passionate about the sport and the Club.

Responsibilities

Sailing Programme

Plan, develop, and manage an exciting and diverse annual sailing programme, including:
  • Club
  • Championships and
  • Youth sailing and training

  • Deliver an exceptional member experience by balancing innovation with
  • Maintain a comprehensive 12-month sailing calendar, ensuring all departments and stakeholders are
Team Leadership
  • Lead and support the Sailing Office team, ensuring high performance and professional
  • Recruit, train, and coordinate volunteers for on-water roles, ensuring the Club’s events are well-supported.
  • Oversee day-to-day waterfront operations, including berthing, boat park management, and waterfront equipment

Regattas and Events
  • Organise and deliver sailing events to a professional standard, from Club regattas to international
  • Collaborate with external event organisers and governing bodies to ensure successful
  • Perform Race Officer or Assistant Race Officer duties as required to support the delivery of
Safety and Compliance
  • Oversee all aspects of race management safety, maintaining compliance with RYA, Club, and World Sailing
  • Ensure all waterfront activities meet legal and best-practice standards, including mooring, crane use, and safety equipment
Financial Management
  • Prepare and manage the Sailing Department’s annual budget, supporting programmes that provide value for
  • Develop sponsorship and funding opportunities to enhance current and future events.
  • Manage capital expenditure, ensuring the maintenance and renewal of essential equipment and facilities.
Communication and Community Engagement
  • Work closely with stakeholders, including members, event organisers, and governing bodies, to maintain and build the Club's
  • Provide regular updates on planning, delivery, and results of the Club's sailing activities to management and

Key Skills and Qualifications Essential
  • Proven experience managing sailing programmes and
  • RYA Powerboat Level 2 and current First Aid
  • Thorough understanding of RYA safety frameworks and race management
  • Strong leadership, planning, and interpersonal
  • A passion for sailing and a thorough understanding of the needs of a diverse membership.
Desirable
  • Additional qualifications, such as RYA Dinghy Instructor, RYA Senior Instructor, Race Officer, Safety Boat
  • Familiarity with the management of waterfront facilities (marinas, berthing operations, crane operations).
  • Previous experience working with budgets, sponsorship acquisition, and volunteer
