Location: Southampton / Fareham
£30,000 - £60,000 (Depending on Experience)
Permanent - Full time

Are you an ambitious Junior Naval Architect looking to apply your technical knowledge within a fast-paced, high-performance marine environment? or an experienced Naval Architect ready to take the next step into a senior, project-leading role?

My client is offering an exciting opportunity for either a Junior or Senior Naval Architect to join their innovative design and development team, contributing to advanced vessel projects that sit at the forefront of maritime technology and defence capability.

The Role

As a Naval Architect will play a key part in the design, analysis, and development of high-performance marine craft — from early-stage concepts through to delivery and trials. The role involves hands-on technical work, supporting hull form development, stability assessment, and structural design within a collaborative, multidisciplinary engineering environment.

Depending on experience, you may take on a supporting or leading role across multiple vessel projects, ensuring high standards of technical quality, manufacturability, and compliance with regulatory requirements.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Conduct stability assessments and hydrostatic analyses to ensure compliance across all design conditions.
  • Support hull form design, including 3D modelling, fairing, and hydrodynamic optimisation.
  • Develop and refine general arrangements, integrating systems and payloads effectively within spatial constraints.
  • Track and maintain weights and centres throughout the design and build process.
  • Support or lead structural design activities, including preliminary sizing and material definition for composite and metallic structures.
  • Collaborate with mechanical, systems, and production teams to ensure cohesive, manufacturable design outcomes.
  • Participate in design reviews, trials, and inspections, providing input throughout the full vessel lifecycle.
About You

Essential Skills & Experience:
  • Degree qualified in Naval Architecture, Marine Engineering, Ship Science, or a closely related discipline (BEng, MEng, or equivalent).
  • Demonstrable experience working on vessel design projects, from concept to delivery — ideally within high-performance, defence, or small-craft sectors.
  • Strong understanding of naval architecture principles, including hydrostatics, stability, weights, and structural layout.
  • Proficiency in 3D CAD modelling (preferably Siemens NX or equivalent).
  • Familiarity with stability and hydrostatics software such as Paramarine or similar tools.
  • Understanding of marine construction techniques and design-to-build practices.
Desirable Skills & Experience:
  • Experience with prototype or small-batch vessel development within marine, motorsport, or aerospace sectors.
  • Exposure to structural analysis (FEA) or composite design verification.
  • Awareness of classification rules and approval processes (e.g., Lloyd’s Register, DNV, MCA).
  • Knowledge of hydrodynamics, resistance, and propulsion performance.
General Responsibilities:
  • Apply initiative and sound judgement to overcome technical challenges effectively.
  • Maintain proficiency in all relevant IT and CAD tools.
  • Work collaboratively and professionally across disciplines and departments.
  • Ensure adherence to company health, safety, and quality standards.
  • This is a unique opportunity to be part of an innovative engineering environment where high-performance design meets real-world application. Whether you’re developing your early career or ready to step up into a senior technical position, this role offers the chance to shape the next generation of advanced maritime craft.
  • If you’re a motivated Naval Architect with a passion for performance, precision, and innovation — this could be your next career move.

If you’re a motivated Junior Naval Architect with a passion for performance, precision, and innovation, then this could be your career defining move. Don’t hesitate, click apply NOW!
