COMMISSIONING ASSISTANT - Suffolk

Do you want to represent a leading Yacht brand sailing brand new vessels?
We are looking for a STCW95, Yachtmaster Offshore Sailor to take on the opportunity to be the Commissioning Assistant representing a leading Yacht brand.
This is a permanent position within the team. As the Commissioning Assistant you will be based in Suffolk, reporting directly to the Commissioning Skipper and Commissioning Manager.
Assisting with testing, commissioning, and cleaning of new yachts.
Crewing yachts for local movements, sea trials, handover sails and offshore deliveries.

Responsibilities

• Working to targets and schedules set by the Commissioning Manager & your Commissioning Skipper in undertaking the commissioning, rigging & launching. This includes the occasional need to work at heights aloft, up a mast. Training will be provided. Safe Systems of Work must be always adhered to.
• Test and prepare new yachts, under the direction of your Commissioning Skipper, the Commissioning Manager & Project Manager responsible, ready to hand them over to their owner.
• Assist your Commissioning Skipper and the Commissioning Manager in improving Quality Control.
• Report on problems that appear to be repetitive and draw attention to areas of poor finishing or design, where improvements could be made.
• Check on quality and specification to ensure the product is presented to the client with minimal warranty faults or defects.
• Provide liaison through your Commissioning Skipper & the Commissioning Manager with clients, Build yards & Suppliers during commissioning and handover.
• Assist with the set-up and breakdown of Boat shows, both in the UK and abroad, including occasional delivery passages with showboats to their destinations. This may on occasion involve working anti-social hours, e.g., over parts of the Christmas & New Year holiday period.
• Assist the Aftersales & Warranty Manager with Aftersales or Warranty work where required, including overseas trips for vessels abroad.
• Assist clients with their initial delivery passages, by prior arrangement with the Commissioning Manager and the respective Project Manager.
• Assist the Commissioning Manager and your Commissioning Skipper in keeping control of store sheds and Commissioning Department office's external to the main office building and the storage of equipment prior to handover.
• Assist with the day-to-day maintenance, cleaning & valeting of yachts and Client's yachts, when they remain under the general umbrella of care. This work will sometimes involve some dirty tasks to be carried out in inclement weather conditions.

Essential:

• Self-motivated with the ability to work in a team.
• Ability to work well under pressure.
• Time oriented individual with exceptional attention to detail
• Sailing Experience
• Willing to work away from time to time.
• Extensive sailing experience, including on yachts of ~24m.
• Experience of sailing in tidal waters and on long offshore passages.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Competent user of Microsoft Office software.
• Fit, active and in good health.

Desirable:

• Knowledge of marine industry.
• RYA/MCA sailing qualifications.
