About the Company:
Our client is a leading wholesale marine distributor based in Essex and employing 12 staff. After the retirement of our existing Sales Director, we are looking for a candidate to take on the role in their own mould.

The Position:
Sales Director is a Board position.  The everyday responsibilities of the role include managing customer accounts and sales staff, driving sales, seizing opportunities, and resolving problems.  The Company has two internal Directors and one external Director, your contribution will influence all the decisions and actions of the Company whether they be in sales, supplier relationships, product selection, business development, systems, staffing, finance, premises, freight etc.
 
The Role may suit an experienced individual or someone ready to step up.  That individual will demonstrate leadership ability, diligence, financial acumen and some marine industry knowledge aligned with a charm & skill that puts them in the lead in competitive sales situations.
 
The candidate must benefit from the following:
 
  • A track record in sales or account management.
  • Analytical ability and capacity to understand pricing, finance, margins, credit, profit.
  • Ideally to have some marine sales expertise.
  • Willingness to travel.
  • An enthusiastic, action-orientated personality.
  • Outstanding communication & negotiation skills.
 
Ideally the candidate will also have:
  • Experience of the marine industry, working in the marine and chandlery marketplaces.
 
Main Responsibilities:
Manage two internal and one external sales staff, design sales strategies and provide feedback.
Visit clients regularly to support and understand the customer’s needs.
Address technical queries and establish expertise.
Ensure customer service is of the highest standard. Fix problems that undermine it.
Identify and win new customers. 
Provide experience and data for pricing.
Identify new suppliers, engage with them and reinforce their expectation of reliability in our business, excellent marketing, sales and customer service.
Contribute an opinion on everything, e.g. adapting to Brexit, management during a pandemic, development of staff, website, bonusing, recognising failures, planning, improving computer systems etc
