World Sailing is seeking to fill the role of Technical & Offshore Director.  This is a unique opportunity to work with the world governing body for the sport of sailing and this position will have full responsibility for the Technical & Offshore function of World Sailing reporting directly to the CEO.

World Sailing is the world governing body for the sport of sailing, officially recognised by the International Olympic Committee (IOC) and International Paralympic Committee (IPC)

 
World Sailing is responsible for: 
  • the promotion of the sport internationally;
  • managing sailing at the Olympic and Paralympic Games;
  • developing the Racing Rules of Sailing and regulations for all sailing competitions;
  • the training of judges, umpires and other administrators;
  • the development of the sport around the world; and
  • representing the sailors in all matters concerning the sport.
 
The principle members of World Sailing are the 145 'Member National Authorities' (MNAs) and the 100+ 'Class Associations'.

World Sailing will be moving from Southampton to a new headquarters building in London on the 31/07/17. Candidates would be required to travel to the existing Southampton office to facilitate a handover before the organization moves permanently to London in the summer. World Sailing also has a temporary serviced office in Eastbourne Terrace, London.

Role
 
The Technical & Offshore Director will have full responsibility for the Technical & Offshore function of World Sailing reporting directly to the CEO.
 
Key Responsibilities:
 
Lead a small team of technical specialists to develop and maintain the following areas within World Sailing:

–  Standards to ensure the technical integrity of the sport
–  Quality of equipment and certification within the sport
–  Class status, rules and Interpretations
–  Licensing of approved Boat Builders and building specification changes
–  World Sailing In-house Certification Scheme contracts, auditing and processes
–  Rating systems
–  Equipment Rules of Sailing
–  Offshore Special Regulations
–  Yacht plan review scheme
–  Technical commercial activities
–  Liaison with technical representatives across the sport, sailing industry, standards bodies and government organisations

 
Provide full support to the following World Sailing Committees:

–  Equipment Committee
–  Oceanic and Offshore Committee
–  Special Regulations Sub-Committee
–  World Sailing Classes Committee
–  International Measurers Sub-Committee
–  International Regulations Commission
–  Equipment Rules Sub-Committee


Relationships & Interfaces:
 
Strategic reporting to:
Line Manager – CEO
 
Support & Guidance to:
World Sailing staff, Board, World Sailing Committees (listed above) and Member National Authorities
 

Personal Attributes & Experience:
 
Essential

–  Graduate in Naval Architecture with a minimum of 7-years post qualification experience
–  Excellent written and verbal English language skills
–  Excellent interpersonal skills
–  The ability to meet tight deadlines
–  A flexible approach to leading a small team
–  Evidence of working within and contributing to a team environment
–  A willingness to learn new skills and develop existing competencies
