1)     Preparation - Visit the company’s website, learn about the structure of the business and about their main products or services. You may also want to think about who their customers or competitors are and consider if their business is likely to be affected by any current affairs in the news.

2)     CV - Re-read your CV and be ready to answer any questions about your previous experience. Remember to explain how your experience would be beneficial in the new position.

3)     Getting there - Remember to prepare your journey to the interview well beforehand by researching traffic routes, local public transport or parking facilities. You should aim to arrive at least 10 minutes early to look keen and get settled. If you are going to be late for any reason then please ring us immediately and we will warn the client.

4)     Dress code - This may vary depending on the culture of the company. We are always happy to offer you guidance but the general rule is to dress smartly, preferably in a suit.

5)     Body language -Try to appear confident and enthusiastic at all times. Greet the interviewers and other staff with a smile and a firm handshake. Sit up straight and make eye contact with the people you speak to.

6)     Be positive - Sell yourself but also be prepared to answer the dreaded question “What are your weaknesses?” with a positive spin.

7)     Questions - Interviews are a two way process, so don’t be afraid to prepare and ask questions. This is also your chance to see if this is the company and position for you.

8)     Answers - Avoid one word answers. You should try and provide as much information as possible about yourself but also try to remain concise and stick to the question. If you don’t understand a question then ask for clarification.

9)     Afterwards - At the end of the interview, thank them for their time and let them know that you are still keen on the position. Then make sure you are clear about the next steps in the process and when you are likely to hear the result.

10) Contact us -  After the interview, ring us as soon as you can. Tell us how you think it went and your thoughts on the position and company and we will try our best to secure the job for you.
