JOB LOCATION London JOB TITLE Head of Engineering JOB REF MR-EDT-MAN-72461 JOB DESCRIPTION Our client is the leading commuter ferry company which runs a 24hr service on the River Thames within central London. They have a fleet of various ‘fast cats’ which range up to around 150 ft in length and hold up to 220 passengers. This company is expanding at a rapid rate and due to this they are now recruting for a Head of Engineering with strong man management skills, a business focus and who is willing to be based in or around London on a permanent basis. This role requires the successful candidate to be on call 24 hrs a day. The successful candidates will be responsible for the overall maintenance and technical standards of all vessels, piers and pontoons and to ensure that statutory legislation is adhered to and ensure all work carried out is to the highest standard at all times. The main activities for the role are: o Ensure that the International Safety Management code is maintained and all statutory certificates are in date and the vessel is operated in accordance with the approved companies procedures. o To regularly review the International Safety Management code regarding changes and revisions including the use of Safety Committee Meeting Minutes. o To comply with the Our clients Maintenance policy for High Speed Vessels o Review all technical incidents and investigate to find the root cause and ensure appropriate action is taken. o To be responsible for the hull, machinery and technical reliability of the vessels. o Liaise with the Head of Fleet and Safety Operations regarding any technical issues relating to the safety of the vessels. o Approve all manuals, documents, plans, procedures and policies to ensure they relate to all technical operations. o Review and update the planned maintenance system on a regular basis. o Ensure all pre-service and in-service inspections are carried out along side the Head of Fleet and Safety operations. o To ensure that sufficient consumable parts are ordered and available to support the day to day operation of the vessels. o To be solely responsible for the Engineering departments budget. o To manage the relationship between our client and Contractors to ensure all budgets are met during specific maintenance and docking periods. o To be responsible and manage a team of Electrical and Mechanical Engineers. o Assist in developing and maintaining effective team work within departments and offices o Provide and promote the highest level of customer service o Continuously seek ways to improve personal, team and business performance o Ensure that you comply with all Health and Safety regulations and safe working practice as required by current legislation and the Company’s Health and Safety Policy and practices o Ensure that all relevant information is communicated speedily and accurately in a way that ensures that the information is received and easily understood o Ensure that all materials and resources are effectively and efficiently utilised to minimise waste and reduce costs o Undertake any other relevant duties or reasonable request as requested by the Executive Director and any member of the senior management team Essential Key Skills for to be successful in this role are: o Relevant experience of working on large diesel engines such as boats or lorries o Previous management experience within a Marine Engineering industry o Relevant experience of working in high pressure environments (able to get vessels back in service quickly where possible) o Must be computer literate and an effective communicator and report writer o Have experience working with and alongside authorities, including maintaining records and other relevant documentation. o Positive with a “can do” attitude o Team player who enjoys working in a high achieving environment o A commitment to delivering the best SALARY £45,000 - £55,000 per annum + Private medical insurance and pension scheme after 3 months probation period.
