JOB LOCATION JOB TITLE Technical Officer, The School of Natural Sciences - Earth and Ocean Sciences (Oceanography) JOB REF MR-LM-CM-OTH-116650 JOB DESCRIPTION The successful candidate for this position must have experience of working at sea. Candidates should hold a Certificate of Proficiency in Personal Survival Techniques on board ship (PST) and will be required to pass an ENG-11 seafarer medical examination. Applicants should have proven mechanical and electrical workshop skills, and boat-handling skills. Ideally candidates will have significant experience of maintaining and deploying a range of oceanographic and land/marine geophysical equipment. Experience of processing and analysis of oceanographic/geophysical data would be an advantage. The successful applicant will be expected to co-ordinate and participate in oceanographic training and research surveys and to engage in the delivery and development of undergraduate practical teaching in the School, involving daily interaction with students, researchers and academic staff. The successful applicant will be expected to manage oceanographic workshop facilities, to maintain oceanographic and geophysical equipment, and to train students and researchers in research protocols and equipment handling. The successful candidate will be expected to continuously upgrade and develop oceanographic and geophysical technologies for research and teaching and to undergo training as required. Please note that appointment to posts advertised will be dependent upon the terms of the employment control framework for the higher education sector.
