JOB DESCRIPTION

Main Purpose of Job:

To provide accurate and timely information, support and contribute to the development of the finance function on a project basis and the continuing success of each project and the company.

Principal Tasks:

  • On behalf of the Director of Finance attend project site;

                                          i.    Liaise with client or client’s nominated party and with in-house/on-site teams, and operational team members;

                                        ii.    Meet with Project operational team and Project Planner to update plans and review forecasts.

  • Compile, analyse and interrogate cost data for use in developing future budget proposals and quotations;
  • Assist in developing new methods to report financial and non-financial information externally and internally within the company;
  • Help to maintain the project costing system; implement new control procedures to manage cost allocation and cost reporting as necessary;
  • Direct and co-ordinate the generation of reliable on-time costs information, capturing information on all relevant project and associated costs; and to produce regular reports for the Director of Finance and clients.
  • Collate cost information and retain an audit trail
  • Interact with internal and external auditors regarding cost charges;
  • Produce official reporting, analysis and interpretation of variances between budget / forecast and actual costs.
  • Present reports thoroughly and coherently, explaining in detail any variances and costing issues
  • Promote and maintain Health and Safety across projects, teams and business

 Essential requirements of job holder:

  • Part-qualified/Qualified ACCA/CIMA or qualified by experience
  • 3-5 years experience in cost accounting
  • Proven track record in equivalent commercial roles
  • Proven ability in project accounting
  • Strong background in cost control
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office with thorough knowledge of Excel
  • Experience of and skilled at financial reporting within manufacturing and/or    contracting environments
  • Experience of the Microsoft NAV system is desirable
  • Working with MOD contracts is desirable
  • Ability to work effectively in a cross-functional team setting
  • Excellent interpersonal, communication and reporting skills
  • Ability to drive change effectively with staff of all levels
  • Excellent presentation skills desirable

This is a permanent role based from our client's offices in the South, and may also involve visiting and staying - sometimes for extended periods - at project sites and shipyards across the UK, and possibly the world.
